Helder Costa’s chance of completing a permanent move away from Leeds United appear to have suffered something of a blow.

That’s a report from Spanish outlet Super Deporte, who say Valencia are unlikely to make his loan move to the club permanent.

Costa joined Valencia on a season-long loan from Leeds on the final day of the summer transfer window. After a slow start to life at The Mestalla, Costa has gone on to make seven appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side.

But with Valencia in a significant amount of financial trouble, recent reports have claimed that the club need to raise €36million to avoid dissolution, something they are likely to do through player sales.

That is something that could seemingly spell bad news for Costa’s hopes of securing a permanent move to the club.

According to this latest update, the winger is one of those who could moved on in order to raise funds for Valencia. It is claimed that Spanish side do not have an option to buy Costa, and that he is not a player that manager Jose Bordalás has requested to sign permanently, meaning such a deal seems highly unlikely as things stand.

As things stand, there are two-and-a-half years remaining on Costa’s contract with Leeds, securing his future at the club until the summer of 2024.

This certainly looks to be something of a problem for Leeds United.

Judging by this latest update coming out of Valencia, it seems they would be unable to afford to sign Costa, even if they wanted to.

As a result, it seems the winger will be back at Elland Road at the end of this season, when given the options that are ahead of him in the pecking order, it is hard to imagine him playing too much.

With that in mind, you would expect Leeds to try and off-load him again next summer, but given he has struggled to really impress during his time at Leeds, it could be hard to convince another team to pay a fee for him that would give Leeds a return on their investment.

You feel therefore, that another loan deal may be in the offing for the 27-year-old, come this time next year.
