Leeds United player ratings v Port Vale

|

Wow, what a debut for Samuel Sáiz. Could it get much better than that? Not really. These are our player ratings:

Felix Wiedwald – 7 – He didn’t have to make a save again. Not sure what he could have done about the goal really. Maybe we should start a sweep stake on when he’ll make a save?

Into the defence…

Vurnon Anita – 7 – We’re going to have no problems with Anita this season, the man could play anywhere. Cool as a cucumber.

Conor Shaughnessy – 8 – Stepped up in a big way, didn’t look out of his comfort zone at all which is strange considering he’s a centre-midfielder. Some good experience for him.

Luke Ayling – 7 – Captained the team well, got through the game without an injury and that’s the main thing.

Connor Borthwick-Jackson – 8 –
I was extremely impressed by him, we’ve got ourselves a pacey attacking full-back who can defend too. What’s not to love?

Into the midfield…

Mateusz Klich – 7
– He looked sharp, obviously a lot more to come but a very solid debut.

Ronaldo Vieira – 7 – Showed glimpses of what we loved last season, clearly not fully up to speed but a decent performance from him.

Samuel Saiz – 10 – First 10 I’ve given out in a very long time. What a performance from the main man, granted we were playing league two opposition but he looked a step above everyone else on the pitch. Top quality.

Into the attack…

Hadi Sacko – 5 –
A really poor showing by him, watch Alioski’s performance instead for what Sacko needs to do.

Stuart Dallas – 6 –
Linked up well with Samu but had a few too many poor shots for my liking. Did put a decent ball in for the first goal though.

Caleb Ekuban – 8 – He worked his socks off and he took his goal extremely well. He seemed desperate to score too, which I love.

Special mention to Alioski, he changed the game when he came on. He looks a top player. Let me know what ratings you would give and what you thought of the performance!

Probably a bit overmarked but I agree with most of the comments – i know i’m a bit of a lone voice but i think Klich is going to prove best buy of the lot when he settles and interrupted pre season is a distant memory – in circumstances a “solid” showing was pretty good. Incredible how all the signings seem to be hitting the ground running.

  • The keeper does not command his area and is good at picking the ball out of the net
…Sacko does not want to play for Leeds – EVERY ball he had last night went backwards – what has happened to the exciting player we saw early last season?
Alioski/Saiz/Shaughnessy – all my men of the match
