Leeds United player ratings v Millwall

|

Well, I would say that was a surprise but no Leeds horror show at Millwall is ever a surprise. Anyway, let’s get on with it.

Felix Wiedwald – 8 – Probably our best player, which says a lot about the performance. He was shaky at the start but made some key saves as the game went on, which was good to see because he hadn’t really been tested before.

Into the defence…

Luke Ayling – 5 – I quite often say I’ve never seen Ayling have a bad game for Leeds, well I think that just changed. He got beat regularly and was very sloppy with the ball, hopefully he can bounce back quickly.

Conor Shaughnessy – 7 – Probably the best of the defenders today, he looks remarkably composed given centre-back isn’t his natural position. He needs to be a bit more composed on the ball but that will come with experience.

Pontus Jansson – 6 – He did make a lot of clearances but he HAS to do better with their goal, it was largely his fault. He also went off injured late in the game, what is it with our centre-backs this season?

Vurnon Anita – 4 – A really poor showing from Anita, obviously he isn’t a natural left-back but he was beaten time and time again by Millwall’s wingers. We really need to see the return of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, for me.

Into the midfield…

Eunan O’Kane – 5 –
Definitely Eunan’s worst showing this season, he was wasteful with the ball especially when we did venture forward occasionally. He had quite a few opportunities to put the ball in the box to Lasogga and Grot but for some reason, he just wouldn’t.

Kalvin Phillips – 6 – Below par from Kalvin also, he did make some good tackles but not as many as were needed for our midfield to get a grip of the game.

Samu Saiz – 4 – Wasn’t really noticeable in today’s game, it definitely wasn’t suited to his style of play. I’m sure he’ll be back to his magical self against Ipswich.

Into the attack…

Pablo Hernandez – 4 – It would have made sense to rest Pablo today, we needed a strong team ready to battle and Pablo is a bit too luxury for that.

Ezgjan Alioski – 4 – Not strong enough at all today, Millwall made him look like a little boy at times. A good learning experience for him though.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga – 5 – He had absolutely no service today, the loss can’t be blamed on him at all.

Stuart Dallas – 7 – Dallas came on at half-time and did make a positive impact, he showed great pace and for me, he should be starting in the near future.

Kemar Roofe – 5 – He was better than Alioski and Pablo but didn’t really do enough to effect the game.

Overall, just a shocking performance. I do believe it will be a valuable lesson for Christiansen, who made some major mistakes today. Millwall raise their game for us every single time we play there, the team that started for us never really had a chance. Although I don’t blame him for believing in them, we have been top class this season.

    Oh dear!!
When I saw the team I feared the worst.
I thought he would start with Berardi, Dallas, Roofe & Ronaldo.
We were ill prepared for this game.
I know it is our first defeat, but there will be many days when we have to battle.
This was no better than last year!!

    MOT!

well the only consolation today is results went for us and we are still top due to our superior GD! We got absolutely battered today! showed them too much respect IMO no midfield battle! tells its own story when TC yanked alioski and hernandes off at half time, we don’t seem to be able to mix it when teams come at us physically, there is a weakness other teams will look to exploit for sure! Disappointing!!

3 ballerinas starting away against Millwall – Hernandez, Saiz and Alijoski. Not surprised they were all replaced.
