Leeds United player ratings v Hull City – Just one of those days

It was just one of those days today. The first time Leeds have failed to score since the Boro 0-0 draw. Twice today Leeds had efforts cleared of the line and with some sloppy defensive play, it was never going to end well.

Norwich and Derby are currently drawing 3-3 after a power failure at the ground, hold on Frank. It looks like a few players are in need of a rest, but with a small squad like this, is it possible?

Bailey Peacock-Farrell – 6 – Made a few half decent saves, one that came right before Hull scored their second.

Into the defence…

Luke Ayling – 4 – Not sure if it’s just me but Ayling has looked quite poor since coming back from injury, his passing is dreadful at times.

Pontus Jansson – 6 –Even Pontus got beat more than we’re used to seeing by Kamil Grosicki especially, not his strongest day.

Kalvin Phillips – 5 –At fault for the first goal, I think Bielsa will probably move him back into midfield after this and that would be a good move.

Barry Douglas – 5 – Douglas got beat far too easily in the buildup to the second goal, it feels harsh saying negatives about anyone considering we’re top of the league but Douglas hasn’t been quite as good as I expected after how brilliant he was for Wolves.

Into the midfield…

Adam Forshaw – 3 – All he seemed to do was give the ball away. Halme in for Forshaw and KP into midfield please Marcelo.

Mateusz Klich – 3 – Just as bad as Forshaw today, he put in a tired performance and it became extremely clear that he does not have a left foot.

Pablo Hernandez – 6 – He tried his best but even some of his passes were sloppy today, we can’t put the whole game on his shoulders every week.

Into the attack…

Jack Harrison – 4 – A typical Harrison performance really, a few fancy flicks but no end product.

Jack Clarke – 6 – A major upgrade on Harrison but Clarke struggled slightly with his final ball today, it’s got to be worth starting him against Forest.

Gjanni Alioski – 7 – Alioski was one of the better players for Leeds today, his work-rate was exceptional. As always though, he was probably better defensively than going forward.

Kemar Roofe – 6 – After all his magic recently, Roofe just couldn’t get into the game. It was one of those days unfortunately.

Let us know what you think needs to change for the game at Forest!

I agree that Phillips should go back into the midfield. We need Cooper back or Halme. For some time I have thought that Klich and Foreshaw and Ayling have missed more than they passed. Foreshaw, Klick and Alioski also seem unable to hit a ball and score and in Alioski’s game he seems unable to stay on side. So we need someone other than Roofe who can score a significant number of goals. Surely we can get someone on loan or bought in the January window because what we have is either not good enough or spread too thin? We cannot rely on Bamford or Izzy to play or get busy with the goals. We know, or should know, that Villa, Middlesbrough, Derby, WBA and Nottingham could all spend or bring in loans. We need to get a result at Forest and consolidate our position in the automatic play off places. Surely it is worth investing for the £100million Premier League prize in our centenary year!

I said it all last season that Ayling is the poorest passer of the ball I have ever seen. We need to strengthen the squad. We won’t get away with Forshaw, Klich,BPF, and to a lesser extent the young lads like Shackleton, Clarke, Davis and expect automatic promotion. The first half of the season has been fantastic but it could all fall apart very quickly. The young lads are a big addition to the squad but they are for the future. We need an experienced keeper, we need KP back in midfield, and we need Cooper and Bamford fully fit. Bamford will be like a new signing if we get him back soon.
It’s going to be very difficult to keep this going until the end of the season, but I pray we do.

When you look at the statistics we should have won the game easily.
Leeds had 72% of the play.
    Leeds had 22 shots to Hull’s 9.
Leeds had 7 on target to Hull’s 3.
    Leeds had 8 corners to Hull’s 2
    Crazy.
    We were sloppy.
The goals we let in were really soft, and of our own making.
Our passing was weak and lazy at times.
Klich looks tired, and the whole team were off the boil.
Playing the same team again added to our problems, but we don’t have anyone to
    come into the team.
Ayling has always been a poor crosser of the ball and a careless passer.
Even when he can lay it off to a midfield player, he chooses an aimless forward ball!
We need to get past the Forest game, so the lads can have a rest and re-group.
Although we are desperate for new blood in several positions, I don’t hold out too much hope.
It has been a great season so far, and the above statistics always give you a chance in games.
It is good to have Tyler back, but I agree that Bamford and Izzy will be out for a while.

    MOT!!
