Leeds United right-back Rasmus Kristensen came off the bench for Denmark last night in an important step towards regaining full fitness.

The Whites haven’t kicked a ball in the Premier League since the 3rd September, and it’s a patient wait for the return of action as an international break now gets underway..

Such a hiatus from club football has given Jesse Marsch chance to see some of his key first-team players make full recoveries from injuries that would have ruled them out of the fixtures that were postponed.

Rasmus Kristensen missed the trip to Brentford at the start of the month thanks to a training ground knock, but his inclusion in the Denmark squad for this week was a welcome boost for Marsch.

With a talented right-back pool to choose from, the 25-year-old’s mere inclusion in the squad would suggest he’s almost at full fitness.

Denmark faced Croatia last night and came out with a 2-1 defeat as Christian Eriksen’s equaliser was swiftly responded to by the home side.

However, Kristensen took another step towards getting back to full fitness as he came on for the last half-hour of the match in place of Daniel Wass.

Shipping two goals won’t have pleased the right-back, but there was little he could do about either from outside the box.

One of the biggest selection dilemmas that Marsch now has in his side is which of the three right-backs he opts for going forward.

All three would be worthy of starting, and Kristensen’s setback might have made Marsch reconsider who should start against Aston Villa.

Luke Ayling’s performance away at Brentford should have him in contention for a starting place, but Cody Drameh will also think he’s done enough to be considered.

It’s a good situation we now find ourselves in that we’re able to choose between multiple players in one position.
