Yangel Herrera is reportedly bound for Leeds United, who are willing to pay over £20m to land his service.

Leeds are looking to evolve their options in midfielder over the summer, after Marcelo Bielsa led them to ninth in the Premier League last season.

Whether it is cover for Kalvin Phillips or someone to rival Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas, Leeds have their sights on a midfielder after landing Junior Firpo to solve their left-back issues.

As per a report from El Gol Digital, ‘everything indicates’ that Leeds will strike an agreement with Man City for Herrera.

It will take around £20.4m to get the Premier League champions to sell, but Leeds are reportedly willing to pay what it takes to get the midfielder to Elland Road.

The 23-year-old is a Venezuela international and has not yet featured for his parent-club. However, he’s been out on loan in Spain between 2019 and 2021, featuring for Huesca and Granada.

Last year, he made a combined 46 appearances for Granada in La Liga, Copa Del Rey and Europa League, returning eight goals from midfield.

This could be really good business for Leeds to conduct this summer, with £20m for a player that played at a really good standard last season reasonable money.

Herrera would be something of an alternative to Kalvin Phillips in Leeds’ midfield, challenging the England international for a place at the base of midfield.

That, in turn, could allow Phillips to push forwards into one of the No.8 positions, where he thrived for England at Euro 2020.

It could solve Leeds two problems with just one transfer in that respect.

Herrera is a player not many fans will know a lot about. However, he would be an exciting signing and you don’t have to dig too far to be impressed by his stats.

He’s defensively sound, decent on the ball and looked at home in Spain’s top-flight last season, as well as in the Europa League.
