Leif Davis’ future appears to lie away from Leeds United after the club confirmed his loan to AFC Bournemouth could be made permanent at the conclusion of 2021/22.

Leeds have announced that Davis has joined the South Coast club on loan for the upcoming season, offering him a chance of regular senior football.

However, there’s more to it than just a straight loan, which could lead the left-back to Bournemouth permanently.

An announcement has come from Leeds this afternoon confirming Davis is Bournemouth-bound on an initial loan. However, that deal could become permanent in the summer of 2022, citing that there’s a ‘view to a permanent transfer’.

The 21-year-old has been on the books since 2018, having arrived at Elland Road after impressing with Morecambe.

Marcelo Bielsa has regularly used Davis during his time as head coach, too, with the left-back making 14 appearances for the senior side, including cameos against Manchester City and Manchester United.

Davis has also excelled in the U23s at Elland Road, featuring regularly either at left-back or centre-back.

This is slightly surprising given how highly-rated Davis is amongst many different people at Elland Road.

Bielsa has always seemed to think a lot of the left-back, which is hardly a position that Leeds are blessed with options even after the arrival of Junior Firpo.

However, we have to mention Leeds’ latest left-back recruit.

Firpo is still only 24 himself and, all being well, will have a long stint on the left side of defence for the Whites.

Davis is 21 now and needs senior football, which Leeds just cannot guarantee. That’s in terms of next season and beyond that.

Maybe the club need to source cover in a slightly different form.
