Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has been a star this season in the Premier League, and Liverpool have been touted for a move for him in the summer.
The Whites clinched promotion under Marcelo Bielsa last summer, but it only happened after Phillips put pen-to-paper on a new contract and stayed for another year.
His performances have been outstanding since and a key reason for why Leeds find themselves in mid-table at the moment.
Leeds face Liverpool tonight at Elland Road and it’s another chance for key players to showcase their talents against the best the league can offer.
Phillips held his own very well at Anfield on his Premier League debut and proved he can cope with the demands of the top flight.
So much so it wouldn’t be a shock to see top clubs push for a transfer in the coming years as he settles into the top half of the league.
Indeed, the Mirror reported that the Reds could make a move for him this summer.
Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has tipped Liverpool to pursue Kalvin Phillips as the man to takeover the holding midfield role at the club from Jordan Henderson.
Speaking to Rousing the Kop, he stated:
Looks it, young lad who knows his job. He’s very competent on the ball as well.
You can know your job and not really know when you receive the ball how to play those penetrative passes. He has those passes. He has the dogged ability to get around the pitch and put in some tackles as well.
He has every side of his game, whether you can get him is another thing.
He’d definitely fit in at Liverpool with how Jurgen Klopp wants to play.
They adopt a high-pressing style like us where the midfield need to move the ball quick, and Phillips can do that.
However, they’d need a lot of money to tempt him away from Leeds with how we’re currently sitting in the league.
We’re not in an urgent need to sell, so we can ask for whatever price we want, really.
Such interest doesn’t surprise me, though, and it just shows how far he’s come under Bielsa.
