Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt was in action once again for Sunderland last night, as he continues his loan spell with the Black Cats.

The 20-year-old, who made the move to the Stadium of Light in the January transfer window on a temporary basis until the end of the season, started his ninth Championship game in a row since completing that move.

That came as Sunderland, looking to build on their 1-0 win at Norwich over the weekend, hosted automatic promotion chasing Sheffield United at the Stadium of Light.

However, that is something they were unable to do, with the Blades running out 2-1 winners over Tony Mowbray.

It also proved to be another difficult night for Gelhardt as well, as his struggles in front of goal continued.

The striker has scored just once since completing his move to Sunderland, and he rarely looked like adding to that tally on Wednesday night.

Despite once again lining up in the centre forward role, the Leeds loanee failed to produce a single shot on or off target against the Blades, in what will have been another frustrating night for him, as per SofaScore.

Meanwhile, the 20-year-old also seemed to find things difficult when taking on opposition players, wining just five of the 14 duels he entered into, against a strong Sheffield United defence.

Gelhardt was at least somewhat reliable on the ball for the Black Cats, recording an 84% pass success rate, and completing one key pass.

Ultimately though, someone in his position will need to pose more of a threat than he did in front of goal, and as such, he was substituted with around 20 minutes of the game remaining.

This therefore, goes down as another difficult day for Gelhardt, in a loan spell that is yet to really get going for the Leeds United man.
