Leeds United have been handed a blow in their pursuit of Fulham teenager Fabio Carvalho, with the attacker’s agent angling for a move to Liverpool.

Leeds have kept one eye open on any deals that become available in the youth market and this season has seen two shrewd deals potentially look at becoming three.

The Championship could be raided again for one of the division’s prized talents.

The Sun have reported that Fulham sensation Fabio Carvalho has rejected a new contract at the club, putting the likes of Leeds and other clubs on high alert that he is available for a cut-price move as he’s out of contract in the summer.

With Carvalho’s form at the back end of last season in the Premier League catching the eye, he’s continued that for the Cottagers this season with three goals and one assist in seven league appearances this term.

While he looks destined to move on from Craven Cottage, Leeds aren’t the only clubs in for him and it looks as though Liverpool have moved ahead of the Whites in this transfer saga.

The player’s high-profile agent, Jorge Mendes, has been revealed by the Daily Mail as preferring a move to the Anfield club due to their terrific handling of Harvey Elliott’s development.

Elliott too came through the ranks at Fulham and was showcasing his abilities this season as a regular starter under Jurgen Klopp until his freak injury against Leeds.

You couldn’t really blame Carvalho for wanting to move to Liverpool over us when he’ll have seen Elliott’s progress.

The same can be said of Leeds too though, with a number of youngsters coming through at the moment, including Carvalho’s close friend, Cody Drameh.

I have no doubts he will get a move to the top flight either in January or the summer, but it’s yet to be seen where he goes.

What I can say is that Mendes’ stance does say a lot about where we could see this transfer heading.
