Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres is going to be a wanted man this summer after another strong goalscoring season in the Championship, with Leeds United now set to face competition from both Bournemouth and Everton for his signature.

As much as the main focus for Leeds and Javi Gracia at this stage is just climbing up the table and creating daylight to the relegation zone, there will be one eye on the summer rebuild.

Even though Leeds put down £36million to bring in Georginio Rutter from Hoffenheim, the search for a striker is likely to persist into the new season later in 2023.

Who has been linked?

The January transfer window brought frequent links to Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, as his form for the Sky Blues continues to hold him in regard as arguably the best striker outside of the Premier League.

Football Insider have since recently reported that Leeds are set to re-ignite their interest in the striker at the end of the season, with his club likely to command an asking price between £10-12million.

The towering Swede is out of contract in the summer of 2024, meaning he enters the final 12 months of his contract after this season is concluded.

Are Leeds alone in their hunt for Gyokeres?

As is the case with any top-performing Championship player, interest from the Premier League is not hard to come by.

Football Insider have now added to their claims of Leeds’ monitoring of Gyokeres, reporting that fellow strugglers Bournemouth and Everton are looking to sign the 24-year-old.

The Cherries are said to be “huge admirers” of the striker while Everton tried in January to bring him in, before turning their backs on a deal due to his asking price.

If he is available for such a modest price in the summer, then we have to be pulling out all the stops to bring him in.

He’s the successor to Patrick Bamford that we need heading forward in the Premier League, should we stay up this season.

As much as Bamford works tirelessly, it’s a case of us either having him work hard, or have someone able of scoring regularly.

Gyokeres looks like a player capable of doing both.
