Leeds United are searching for a director of football to replace Victor Orta, and could turn to Norwich City’s Stuart Webber.

The Whites are about to undergo massive change this summer with the club needing an overhaul from top-to-bottom at the moment.

Sam Allardyce’s short-term arrival sees him tasked with keeping the club afloat, but no matter the division, Leeds are in need of changes at board level.

Victor Orta gone

The first major change that plenty of the fans would have called for after the season would have been to part ways with Victor Orta.

Having been at the club nearly six years, Orta did leave the club this week by mutual consent:

How will Leeds replace him?

The task of sourcing a replacement is likely already high on the agenda at Elland Road for Andrea Radrizzani, and one name appears to stand out.

Sources have indicated to Leeds All Over that if Radrizzani is still part of the selection process for the new director of football, Norwich City’s Stuart Webber will appear high in the priorities to try to appoint.

The Italian is believed to be a keen admirer of the Norwich sporting director, who has spent six years at Carrow Road, overseeing two promotions to the Premier League as champions of the Championship.

This appointment hinges on whether the San Francisco 49ers will have completed their takeover of the club or not, as they could look for their own appointment.

Orta himself has stated his admiration of Webber in the past – claiming during an evening spent with fans back in October 2021 that he sees Webber as a better director than him.

Webber was previously a target for Chelsea’s boardroom under Todd Boehly, as they restructured earlier in the season.

No

In terms of domestic appointments, Webber could be a very shrewd move, given he’s done very well to get Norwich promoted while not spending incredible amounts.

Their yo-yoing between the divisions is a concern, but Orta himself has seen more in Webber than he does in his own work, which is encouraging.

It’s a decision that Leeds need to pursue as quickly as possible, though, because a good sporting director can completely shape the summer and 2023/24 for us.
