The new season is finally upon us and with that comes the chance to make predictions that will look beyond stupid in nine months time.
Player of the season
A tricky one to choose with a lot of unknown players, I’m going to go with Alioski. From what I’ve seen in preseason, he’s got pace to burn but unlike Sacko, seems to have the end product too. If you go back and watch some of his performances from Switzerland, he’s got a great shot on him and we could really use some goals from players other than Wood this year. He already showed his finishing ability with a good goal against SD Eibar. If all goes to plan, I see Alioski being a fan favourite, providing goals, assists and entertainment.
I hope this doesn’t happen, but I have a feeling Chris Wood will be a disappointment after his amazing season last year. I don’t see him scoring close to what he did last season. In preseason, he’s looked off it to me, probably tired from the Confederations cup with New Zealand. Leeds are still looking to sign a backup striker and I think that’ll be important in our success this season. I seriously hope I’m wrong about Wood though!
Considering I’ve just said Wood is going to be a disappointment I probably can’t put him here. I do see us scoring a lot more goals from midfield than we did last year and I can see Roofe having a big season. So I’m going to go out there and say Roofe will be our top scorer with 18 goals, a bit like when Gradel scored 19 in 2010/11. This will look silly when Wood bags 25 and Roofe scores 2, but that’s part of the fun.
I’m liking the positive vibes coming out of Elland Road at the minute and the preseason games have given me some confidence, although you can’t take too much from them. I like the look of the players, the setup the club now has including worldwide scouting. If we have a good start and also sign a couple more players, we’ll have something rolling here. I believe we’ll finish 5th and finally make it back to the Premier League.
So those are our predictions, let us know what you’re predicting in the comments!
