Reports emerging in the French press over the weekend have linked Leeds with ‘taking information’ on French born but Algerian international midfielder, Mehdi Abeid.

Abeid, 26, is out of contract in June 2019 has been at Ligue 1 club Dijon FCO since 2016. Operating as both a defensive and wide midfielder Abeid does have Premier League experience, having played 13 times for Newcastle in their 2014-15 Premier League campaign before he eventually moved to Greece to play for Panathinaikos.

Whilst we are aware that Leeds are certainly in the market for a wide player with Daniel James being the number 1 target for Victor Orta, it is uncertain whether this is interest for the immediate January window or for when Abeid’s contract runs out in Summer. Leeds certainly have enough supply of good defensive midfielders with Kalvin Phillips and Adam Forshaw competing for the number 4 role.

It is looking increasingly likely that Leeds are looking to move for a winger in the coming week now they have wrapped up the transfer of Kiko Casilla, a goalkeeper from Real Madrid.
