If Leeds United want to re-sign their former midfielder and captain, Jonny Howson, they have been told they will need to stump up around £5 million.

Howson has recently rejected a new contract at Carrow Road because he wants to move back up North and this has created rumours of a return to Elland Road as you would expect. Norwich themselves are looking to revamp their squad after last seasons disappointment and Howson could be one of those who is sold to fund their recruitment.

According to various rumours though Leeds have been told it will cost them £5 million to acquire their former captain. Howson was a product of the Leeds academy and made over 200 appearances during a six year spell at the club before he was sold to Norwich in the transfer window of January 2012. He was a major part of our squad back then and the fans loved him. He was sold for a measly £2 million during the Ken Bates era and has ultimately never been replaced.

Leeds have struggled with the central midfield role for years now and the signing of Mateusz Klich will hopefully do a lot to help improve that. With Ronaldo Vieira coming along nicely, the acquisition of Howson would further strengthen us in that position. Liam Bridcutt didn’t show enough for me last year but Eunan O’Kane did quite well I thought before being frozen out towards the end of the season.

Would £5 million be too much for a player of Howson’s ability? I don’t think so. I’d love for him to return to Elland Road and I’m pretty sure given the opportunity Jonny would want the same thing. His reaction at the end of the draw with Norwich at Elland Road last season said as much.

Let us know, would you like Howson to return?

Love him to come back as lo g as he really wants to

    • Mark Ringrose says:

Anybody reading this knows that bringing Jonny home and making him captain will be the best signing this summer , agree??

  • Joedalelufc says:

    Bridcutt is out best player

  • Sprake says:

At least we have a sell on clause for him since selling him to Norwich that would lower the price.

  • Hilary Attard says:

I will love Jonny to be back where he really you belongs – Elland Road !!!

  • CHRIS MOORE says:

O’kane wasn’t all that good either

  • JDC says:

The question must be … is he £5m better than the players we already have? Mateusz Klich, Ronaldo Vieira, Pablo Hernández, Eunan O’Kane, Liam Bridcutt, or some of the players Victor Orta may be lining up … imo, no he is not. It appears that it’s only Mirror talk, with no mention from the man who knows, Victor Orta … leave him where he is Victor, sentimental tosh.

Bang on mate – I would prefer Charlie Adam on a free – Having signed Klich my attentions would move to Jeff Adelaide (on loan) –
We need 4 midfielders in my view – Vieria , Klich, Adelaide and Bridcutt
I don’t rate OKane and hi would send Phillips out to league one on loan

      • FRED says:

Charlie Adam would be fantastic, if his wages are acceptable and I’d sell Bridcutt to Middlesbrough, because Monk actually rates him.

  • PJ says:

Howson would improve any championship team, including Leeds. The price is what it is and if we want to get out of this division then we’re going to have to pay over the odds for some players at times. Still think we need two at the back.

  • FRED says:

Every Leeds player now has a clean slate and it will be very interesting to see if Murphy and Diagouraga fit into Christiansen’s plans, even if it’s just as squad members with at a squad number, because in my view they can bring more to the team, than Phillips, Bridcutt and O’Kane.

  • rilep1 says:

yes maybe murphy but defo not diagouraga hes useless

  • Graeme says:

5 million is too much. Let’s see what unpolished gems Sres Orta and Salas can unearth.

  • Hagi says:

Mick, a scouse mate who supports Liverpool says Adam was quite disruptive in the dressing room when at Anfield. Not sure how true that is but certainly a great player even now and especially in the Championship. I think if we’d got him last season when we wanted him, we would have gone up.

  • Hagi says:

Bet Jonny’s wife wants to come back home to be nearer her family and if that’s the case, and The ‘Udders don’t want him, his wages might not be such a problem and the fee could be reduced if he tells Norwich he’ll only go to us or sit out his contract.

  • david says:

not for £5million, better players out there

  • Like the majority, I would really be happy to see Howson back at Elland Road. The one thing that annoys me is we would be funding Norwich’s rebuild. They paid £2m in 2012 when things were bad for us and took advantage of this, now 5 years down the line they find themselves in the 2nd tier and want to use us again for their benefit by adding another £3m to any transfer fee. Ultimately in business terms, who would benefit the most out of this, them or us? LUAFCFOREVER!!!
