The partnership that ties Leeds United and NFL Side, San Francisco 49ers, has long been referred to as ‘strategic’, where it is likely to be mutually beneficial to learn from other sporting institutions about their businesses and processes.

Though it is probably a matter of coincidence that Leeds won promotion in the same year the 49ers reached the Superbowl.

Whilst Leeds were in the Championship, it felt like the 49ers were testing the waters with investment into English football, an environment that can often become difficult and extremely costly.

It is unsurprising then that the owners of the 49ers have spoken to the New York Times about increasing their investment in Leeds United as a consequence of their promotion to the Premier League.

Currently owning around 10%, extra investment from 49ers owner, Paraag Marathe and Chief Executive, Jed York, will probably eat into Andrea Radrizzani’s existing stake. To what extent it is unknown, but one expect Radrizzani to maintain a controlling share.

In the same interview, Marathe spoke very positively about his close relationship with Andrea Radrizzani and their strategy going into the Premier League. Aswell as he and York’s enthusiasm for goings on at Leeds United, claiming they have travelled to Elland Road about once every six weeks.
