The Daily Mail have this afternoon reported that Leeds have made a late attempt to sign ex-Reading young forward Danny Loader, who is available on a free transfer.

The Mail report that he is a personal target of Victor Orta, Leeds’ charismatic Director of Football, and he is also being pursued by Portugese side Porto and Premier League, Crystal Palace.

Despite being just 19, Loader has already made a significant number of appearances for the Royals, amassing 28 appearances.

As is often the case with Orta’s penchance for signing young players who represent good value, this is a deal with an eye to the future. Leeds have a good and highly-thought of youth setup, which is signified most strongly by the close relations between the U23 side and first team, who a number of players have made the transition between under Marcelo Bielsa.

Leeds’ U23 side are currently without a coach after Carlos Corberan departed for Yorkshire rivals, Huddersfield Town, last week. It is not yet known who will come in to replace him.
