Leeds player ratings v Preston: attacker gets man of the match after sublime performance

|

Today was brilliant, back to the Leeds we’ve seen for the most part of the season. I thought we deserved more than just the 3 we scored, we created chance after chance and Elland Road was rocking once again. You can just tell teams don’t like coming here anymore, it’s brilliant. Here’s our player ratings:

Rob Green – 7 – Another solid performance from the main man in goal. There’s no chance we’d be where we are now without him between the sticks. A good save in the first half and was calm and composed when needed.

Luke Ayling – 8 – He was fantastic today and proved what a great decision it was for Monk to stick with him. Solid defensively and was unbelievable going forward, he constantly beat his man. Brilliant to have him back.

Kyle Bartley – 7 – A typical Bartley performance, he dealt really well with Preston’s aerial threat, and there were plenty of long balls especially in the second half.

Pontus Jansson – 8 – I’m glad to see Jansson back to his best, he loves a battle. We’re going to need him to stay suspension free and providing we get into the Play-Off’s before the end of the season I can see Monk not using him for one or two games to ensure he’s available.

Gaetano Berardi – 8 – Berardi was awesome today, went flying into tackles and loves the battle. He didn’t give McGeady, who is one of the most in-form player in the division so far, a sniff out on the wing. Berardi was very positive going forward as well, he made a number of driving runs getting us up the field and supported Pedraza well.

Ronaldo Vieira – 7 – Unreal in the midfield, snapping at their attackers and constantly winning the ball back. He also used it well in possession which he maybe hasn’t done at times this season. He’s going to be some player in years to come.

Kalvin Phillips – 8 – Put a lot of yards in today and he and Vieira compliment each other brilliantly. Thoroughly deserved to start today as Bridcutt hasn’t been at it recently and proved people who have doubted him wrong. He won plenty of challenges, used the ball well and supported the attack whenever he could. These two boys are part of the reason we are where we are so let’s stick with them on Friday, the energy they bring could be key to us getting a result.

Pablo Hernandez – 8 – Hernandez was much better today and silenced his critics. An absolute magician at times and he managed to get a goal at an important time. Also showed the defensive side to his game on many occasions which was nice to see and he got a class reception when he went off. I’m still not sure he’s suitable to start on Friday though, personally I think we need to flood the midfield.

Kemar Roofe – 9 – Tough choice but he gets my man of the match, he ran the show for us. Grabbed an early goal which boosted his confidence and he could’ve bagged a couple more, he was a menace and Preston couldn’t deal with him. We’ve missed him lately and I don’t know why he hasn’t started more games.

Alfonso Pedraza – 7 – He was different class at times, showed some nice touches and beat their full-back with ease on multiple occasions. Probably our best out-and-out winger and he deserves to start on Friday.

Chris Wood – 7 – Woody was very unlucky to have his goal disallowed but I do think he was offside, it was just unbelievable that the ref took so long to decide and the linesman never once flagged. Put himself about and also smashed one against the crossbar in the second half.

A brilliant performance and an even better result. 5 more games, I think 2 wins will be enough but we know Leeds don’t do things the easy way. Bring on the rest of the season, starting with Newcastle on Friday.
