Leeds’ Major Talking Points vs Bolton Wanderers

No-one said it was ever going to be easy.

The major talking point, however, is in Leeds’ offensive play. Whilst Leeds can routinely dominate possession with ease, even hold the lion’s share of play in their half, they are failing to convert this into actual goals, or even credible chances. The problem comes when teams play 5 at the back, sit deep and lock up, see yesterday. You feel as if Samu Saiz was the man to unlock such a setting and there has since been too much reliance on Pablo to provide the spark to get through this. Will a sharp Izzy Brown be the medicine, or will Leeds continue to beat out odd chances? Not just in creation but in putting away chances, strikers will have to hold their hands up and realise that the best teams will not give them so many chances.

Defensively, Leeds have been pretty spot-on in recent weeks. Despite a few individual errors and brief moments of sloppiness, which we must expect to a certain level in the Championship, on the whole Leeds have been respectable. The question begs then do we bring Barry Douglas back in? Or keep the supposedly ‘make-shift’ though seemingly better in this position than he was on the left-wing Gianni Alioski, who has made the left-back position his own. When Leeds are playing high up the pitch it can appear as if we are instead playing two left-wingers with Harrison and Alioski overloading their side for more combination play which does seem to have some method in the madness.
