Former Leeds United loanee Izzy Brown has yet again suffered a lengthy injury lay-off, this time at Preston North End.
While the consensus is overwhelmingly positive on Leeds’ transfer business at the moment, it hasn’t been 100% successful under Marcelo Bielsa.
His first season in charge saw a handful of loanees come in at varying degrees of fitness, with injuries already rife in his squad in 2018/19.
One of those loanees was a strange gamble from the club, bringing in Chelsea’s Izzy Brown for the season despite rehabilitating from a knee injury he sustained with Brighton the season prior.
It took until well into the new year of 2019, when he came off the bench against QPR in the gutting 1-0 defeat.
It was a failed loan but he was back on his feet after plenty of patience in the treatment room.
Since then, loans to Luton Town and Sheffield Wednesday followed before he was signed by Preston North End on a free transfer, but then dealt a cruel blow of a ruptured Achilles in training.
His statement regarding his setback was reacted to by former teammates Luke Ayling and Tyler Roberts:
It’s so frustrating that he’s not been able to show his full potential for even a few months at his various clubs.
He was the shining light in Chelsea’s youth system when he was there, but these setbacks have just ruined his chances.
You’d hope that Preston are patient with him, but they must have known the gamble they were making when they signed him.
Even though he wasn’t here long and didn’t make any impact, you can tell he was someone well-respected and valuable to the dressing room based on the reaction.
