Leeds are facing tough competition from Steven Gerrard’s Rangers in the battle for West Ham’s 21-year-old CB Reece Burke. The defender spent last season on loan at Bolton, where he helped to keep them in the Championship by playing 29 times, scoring twice. Considering he wasn’t surrounded by the best players, he performed pretty well. He’s also featured 15 times for West Ham and had loan spells at Wigan and Bradford.
As well as Rangers, Sheffield Wednesday are interested in taking Burke on loan, along with Villa and Reading on a more permanent deal. With his contract not set to expire until 2020, West Ham may decide to keep him for another season to see if he has what it takes to be a Premier League player.
With Pontus Jansson’s future up in the air and the potential Kyle Bartley move yet to near completion, it would make sense for Leeds to bring in another centre-back after struggling hugely in that department this past season.
