One of the most concrete beliefs amongst the Leeds faithful over this Summer is simple: Keep Ben White.
White, on loan from Brighton, played every minute in the Championship for Leeds last season. He had somewhat of a ‘breakout’ season, his first in the Championship but showed no sign of inexperience. His positional defending and comfort on the ball, winning him many plaudits from across the game.
However, this attention was not all good news for Leeds United. Brighton have iterated a firm belief in keeping him this season. Higher up, Liverpool are known to have a fancy for the English centre-back.
So Leeds must have a contingency plan. And they do.
Phil Hay has revealed that Leeds have identified two centre-backs they will pursue in the event that White does not return to Elland Road.
The first is Argentine centre-back Juan Foyth. The Argentine is currently at Tottenham and has been on the fringes of their first-team for a considerable period now.
The next is Haydon Roberts of Brighton. An 18 year old who is yet to make an appearance for the senior side. This one would appear to be a more unusual move, and questions would certainly be raised whether chucking him straight into a Premier League side would be a wise move, given his inexperience. Though we said the same about White, didn’t we?
