Transfers

Leeds have made some really good signings this summer, really.

|

This time last year Leeds were about to embark on a pre season trip to Italy under the now forgettable leadership of the former Forest Green Manager Dave Hockaday. Our captain Ross Mccormack had just been reported to of handed in a transfer request and Leeds had yet to make a signing. The trip to Italy did provide an emphatic 16-0 win over the Italian minnows Fc Gherdeina and even included a Noel Hunt hattrick, but the general mood of the fans was negative and some fans were already predicting a tough year in the championship.
A year later and Leeds are just days after making their fourth signing Chris Wood who is reportedly Leeds United’s most expensive transfer for over a decade costing an estimated 2.5-3 million pounds. There is a sense of optimism among the fans with some posing the question, could this finally be the year we get where we truly belong in the Premier League? I shall take a look at our completed transfers and give my opinion on how I believe these players could impact the team.

Charlie Horton
He has previously been at Peterborough and Cardiff but has yet to make an appearance for either of them. Although still at 20 years old he has been highly praised by Mr Rosler who has stated “he has very good potential and will be a future number 1”. You would expect the American will have difficulty breaking into the team this year but could potentially be a good signing for the future and a good backup.

Lee Erwin

Our first outfield signing Lee Erwin comes from the SPL club Motherwell. Erwin is said to have raw ability and was said to have been one of the promising talents of the SPL last year scoring 5 in his last 9 games. The 21-year-old became a regular starter ahead of previous top scorer John Sutton last season and provided good energy and though standing at 6 feet 2 he looks to be quite a skilful dribbler with previous managers playing him as a winger (check out his goal at 2:24 on the video below). He comes with high praise from Ex-Leeds legend Gary McAllister but will the young Scot manage to make an impact within his first season? With only scoring 14 goals in 48 games played he might find the transition from the SPL to the championship tough to adapt to. The view of the Motherwell fans is that he could have done with a second season in the SPL to get some playing time as he might not quite be ready to become a regular starter at Leeds. My view is that he may show signs of class throughout the coming season and could become a good option behind our latest signing (Mr Wood) but I wouldn’t be expecting goals galore quite yet, one for the future!

Sol Bamba

Sol Bamba comes back to Leeds after an impressive loan period which saw him play 19 games and scoring 1 goal. Sol Bamba played some fantastic games against Middlesborough and Fulham away both coming to mind. He comes with a wealth of experience playing 52 games for Premiership side Leicester where he is fondly remembered and has played over 40 times internationally even captaining his country on a few occasions. Bamba now 30 brings a much needed leader and experience to a young team who has had trouble with leaking goals. Sol Bamba is seen by myself and many others as possibly our best signing so far this summer but I am praying he can break the curse of our previous signed Centre Backs after a loan period and not be Shite!

Chris Wood

Chris Wood is the current star signing and many are shocked at him arriving, not neccesarily due to his playing ability but more due to his price costing an estimated 2-3 million pounds! Chris Wood comes with high expectation, at just 23 years old he has played 173 league games scoring 46 goals with a season best of 22 goals in the 2012-13 season. Since 2013 Chris Wood has found game time limited only playing 38 games and scoring 9 goals. Wood as many have seen and heard has shown allot of quality in the games he has played, it will therefore be interesting to see how he gets on as presumably a regular starter. My opinion is that Wood could be a great signing provided we were to sign one or two wingers giving him service to score the goals. There will be a lot of pressure on the 23 year old but if he can consistently show the form he has shown at Millwall and when first arriving at Leicester, 2-3 million would be a bargain!

Potential Starting 11?

What starting 11 would you have? Which players should Leeds sign? Could this team challenge for a play off spot?

We were doing well with new players, until the F.A. appear to b2e trying to shaft us yet again. By the way Man City owe me 56 million because they didnt sign me, fact that I am disabled has nothing to do with it, they could have signed me.
