This summer has been a surprise if I’m honest, after last year I expected months of chaos with signings made late into the transfer window, mainly of a Serie B variety. I was wrong. So far we have made 6 signings, if we forget the 2 keepers for a moment the other four are really important signings. Lee Erwin, gives us a different option going forward, pace and height with the ability to play out-wide which we have lacked for years. Sol Bamba, vital signing, was our rock at the back last season and it looked for a long time that we wouldn’t sign him, especially after the comments he made about Cellino. Signing Bamba showed that Leeds United has made a step forward from last year, everything seems a bit more professional.
Tom Adeyemi was a surprise, but a much-needed one. With the loss of Austin we needed a big Physical presence in midfield and at 6ft 1 Adeyemi gives us that. However, he is only 23 so our midfield remains extremely young. This signing also showed how we’ve moved on from last year, none of these signings were being made, they all seem to have come from Rosler in the main, not Cellino. However Chris Wood was the signing that really made you sit up, with the fee seeming to be around the 2+ million mark, this just wasn’t a Leeds United signing. We actually beat another team to a signing and made a statement of intent, it’s been a while. Chris Wood is an excellent signing and will no doubt score goals however he needs help and that brings me to my next point.
The need for wingers has been evident since the exit of Max Gradel and Robert Snodgrass and we have never properly replaced them. You’d think it would be a key aim this transfer window, especially with Rosler suggesting we might play the 4-3-3 formation. It seems that Sam Byram is going to be played out-wide and we are just looking for a left-winger. We should go all out for a top quality winger in my opinion, they offer so much to teams in the Championship and you don’t see many teams promoted without them. If I had it my way we’d have about four wingers in the squad, so we could rotate and account for injuries but if we’re only signing one then it should be a good one and he should have a lot of pace. We have lacked pace for years.
Leeds is looking more stable as a club than it has in a long time and we need good results on the field to help this. I think if we’re really serious about the upcoming season then we should sign another centre-back, somebody like Liam Moore and two wingers. It’s not impossible to see us being in the playoffs at the end of the season.
Who do you think we should sign? Let us know in the comments.
