As a true club man should, Kalvin Phillips came to the support of one dissenting fan who was critical of a team mate of his.

As shown above, on his post Preston instagram post which he captioned with the Eddie Nketiah chant, or ‘EDDIE EDDIE EDDIE’ to those unaware, a fan replied asking Kalvin to ‘snap Bamford in training’. Kalvin, rightly, called him out to show he didn’t agree with what was being said.

Comments like these are a stark reminder of why all football fans should be more careful on social media, players can and do read what is published.

Players need confidence, and Bamford especially looks pretty low on it right now despite not having the worst time out on the pitch, just the goals aren’t clicking. To see such comments from fans of his own club is despicable and will not help the situation in any way. More responsibility is required.

This is a far cry from what actually happens in Elland Road or in Leeds away ends. More often than not, it is not abuse but support of the player if something goes wrong. As it should be.

Even if you talk to Alan Shearer he will tell you there have been long spells when he couldn’t score Bamford will get through it and maybe on Saturday.
