Jason Knight is reportedly a player attracting interest from Leeds United heading into the January transfer window.

Leeds are on the lookout for reinforcements this winter to support Marcelo Bielsa’s threadbare squad that’s been badly hit by injuries.

Quite who Leeds are going to target remains to be seen, but it appears they have an eye on Knight and his development at Derby County.

As per Pete O’Rourke (talking via GiveMeSport), Leeds join the likes of Brighton, West Ham and Newcastle in holding an interest in the 20-year-old.

“Jason Knight also, a good midfielder, Republic of Ireland international as well. Lots of clubs looking at him.

“There’s the likes of Brighton, Newcastle, Leeds all interested in him, as well as West Ham. So, I think it could be a real battle on for his signature in January.”

Knight is versatile in that he can cover a number of positions across the midfield.

He’s made 15 appearances in the Championship this season for Wayne Rooney’s Derby, scoring twice and assisting another two goals.

Knight is a player that we’ve seen Leeds target in the past. He’s up and coming, rather than someone in their peak years with a bit more experience.

Whether that’s exactly what Leeds need this January is up for debate. There are already good players in the wider squad that could do a fairly similar job – Jamie Shackleton being one.

However, Knight is versatile and there’s no denying at all that he’s a talent. He would cover a number of positions in Bielsa’s squad and be someone Leeds can develop over the coming years.

Meanwhile, Derby’s current situation means that Leeds could afford to do the deal with very little fuss.
