Leeds United are reportedly back in the running to sign summer transfer target Bamba Dieng, having failed to land him on deadline day.

The Whites are likely to have a very busy end to the summer window, with a midfielder expected to be heavily pursued, while outgoings are also on the cards from Jesse Marsch’s setup.

His attack is very well equipped to deal with the threat of relegation, but the club might be looking into reigniting summer interest.

Perhaps the most bizarre transfer story of the summer deadline day was that of Marseille’s Bamba Dieng, who was set to travel to England to join Leeds for £10million, before pulling a U-turn on the matter and agreeing to join Ligue 1 outfit Nice, only to fail a medical and stay put.

The Senegal international has since remained at Marseille, where he has made 12 appearances this season, scoring twice and registering two assists. Dieng also featured in the World Cup for his country where he made four appearances and scored once.

Now, journalist Mohamed Toubache is claiming that Leeds and Everton are making a late push to sign the forward this month.

Should either side want to sign Dieng, they face a tough battle to convince him of a move, given his keenness to join Lorient, while they also guarantee playing time.

I do not think we need Dieng at this moment in time, given that our attack is completely stacked with talent that you’d like to think is better than him.

On top of this, why would we want to sign a player who rejected us in such a manner in the summer?

We reacted to that rejection by getting a deal for Willy Gnonto agreed, and that has been the best signing we made this season.

The only way I can see this being a deal we look to complete is if someone leaves, perhaps Jack Harrison.
