Leeds United are still looking for a new forward to add to the mix, but there are specific criteria for that player to fit if the club want to move.

After a win over Wolves, Jesse Marsch will have been content with the contributions of his attacking players, utilising his subs to get more legs out of his options.

However, injuries could soon scupper a fine start to the season, if adequate depth his not sourced before the end of the window.

It’s not just about finding any old striker to come in and add cover to Patrick Bamford and co, because there’s a strict set of criteria for this player to make a positive impact on the squad.

Signing someone as like-for-like to Bamford wouldn’t make a great deal of sense, knowing that would come with limited game time, so a versatile player is required, while youth is also a necessity to ensure Leeds are making an investment with significant sell-on value.

Two key targets have since become unavailable with Charles De Ketelaere joining AC Milan, while Arnaud Kalimuendo is expected to join Rennes imminently.

LeedsLive’s Beren Cross has now written in a fan Q&A outlining the sort of forward that Leeds are looking for right now, with Andrea Radrizzani’s long-term ambition laid out.

“Realistically, we are looking at someone between 19 and 25, with versatility across the frontline and a trajectory which puts them at a Champions League quarter finalist within five years.”

Will Leeds sign a forward before the deadline?

It’s a great plant to have in mind and if the club can find a player of this mould, then I’d be far happier than if we were to just bring in an extra body that isn’t of this criteria.

De Ketelaere seems like the perfect template for the type of player we wanted, but with a player that good, you’re not going to be able to sign him in our position.

There is no need to rush things right now, because the right player will become available sooner or later, but if we pick up an injury, then the pressure is on.

Hopefully, Orta is working hard to find a player that does fall into the category of forward we want, which doesn’t seem like the biggest of talent pools at present.
