Leeds United are unlikely to be making a move for Sampdoria winger Mikkel Damsgaard this summer.

That’s according to Leeds Live reporter Craig McGilligan, who says the Whites have had an interest in the 21-year-old recently, that looks unlikely to be followed up on.

Damsgaard only joined Sampdoria last summer, making the move from Nordsjaelland in his native Denamrk.

But after an impressive debut campaign their, and some excellent performances in Euro 2020 – including scoring a spectacular free kick for Denmark in their semi-final defeat to England – Damsgaard is once again in demand.

Reports had previously claimed that Leeds were among the clubs keen on the 21-year-old, although it now seems that may no longer be the case.

Providing an update on the situation surrounding Damsgaard in an interview on Leeds Live’s Facebook page, McGilligan said: “I believe from what we know here at Leeds Live that he was on a long list, but obviously with what’s happened at the Euros, everything that’s developed with Mikkel Damsgaard, I don’t think he’s made that shortlist.

“But according to several sources, and what we know, he was part of a long list.”

This may not be the worst decision for Leeds to make over Damsgaard in all honesty.

Admittedly, Damsgaard is a very good player, who does have the potential to make an impact in the Premier League.

However, given he has plenty of time left on his contract, and the level of interest there appears to be in him, it is hard to imagine that Damsgaard would be a cheap signing.

That could eat significantly into Leeds’ budget, and given there are positions they need to strengthen more urgently, that doesn’t really feel like it is worth doing as a result of that.
