Reported Leeds United-bound striker Mateo Joseph has received an accolade for his recent string of standout performances.
January is edging closer and with that comes increased speculation that Leeds could be in the market for signings.
It won’t be the busiest when it comes to Marcelo Bielsa’s senior setup but there is always scope for a youth signing.
Leeds have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Espanyol striker Mateo Joseph as soon as the January window opens – as per journalist Diego Balbontin.
The teenager has gained prominence through a brilliant goal haul last season in the youth divisions of Spain, including a hattrick against local rivals Barcelona .
Being out of contract in the summer, Joseph is available for a cut price and Leeds have seemingly pounced.
Now, Balbontin has revealed that the striker’s efforts last season to hi 15 goals have earned him an award.
Writing on Twitter, he stated:
“Mateo Joseph elected best forward of Juvenil DH in the Premios Gols Media 2021.
“The Cantabrian, who will play in the Leeds from January, scored 15 goals last season with the Espanyol.”
While he has been somewhat frozen out this season thanks to speculation over his future, this shows the sort of talent we’re dealing with.
15 goals is on a similar level to Gelhardt and Greenwood’s level last year really.
With those two likely to move up to senior level soon, I can see Joseph being a smart signing.
Hopefully, we can wrap it up and have him hit the ground running from January onwards.
