Dan James could return to Elland Road this month with Leeds United.

Leeds allowed James to depart the club for Craven Cottage on transfer deadline day in the summer, but recent Fulham transfer discussions have placed his future up in the air in West London.

Fulham are on the verge of signing Cedric Soares from Arsenal on loan, per reports from Fabrizio Romano. Should they complete the signing, they will be over the loan quota for Premier League clubs and will have to make space in their squad.

Dan James or Shane Duffy are in line to have their loans cancelled at Craven Cottage, according to journalist Ryan Taylor of Reach PLC, who believes Leeds could have the player return to them this month.

He believes that a cancellation of one of the players’ loans is imminent, he said:

“Fulham have currently filled Premier League loan quota and therefore can only complete Cédric Soares loan deal if they send Shane Duffy or Dan James back to Brighton or Leeds, respectively. Appears one is imminent.”

Leeds are stacked with wide forwards and wingers, so game time at Elland Road would be more difficult to come by for the Welshman. He cannot sign for another English team this season, as he has played for more than one English side already.

However, there is also the possibility he could sign for Fulham permanently instead, should an agreement be reached, Taylor added: “Alternative solution would be to sign one permanently.”

Quiz: Are these 15 statements about Leeds United’s Daniel James true or false?

Daniel James' youth career started with Hull City

James will doubtfully want to return to Leeds, given his unceremonious departure in the summer.

Selling him would obviously be ideal, to recoup some of the money paid for him and pay for other transfers the Whites have concluded this month.

A return would be the worst thing for all parties, given Leeds’ depth in attack now. James would struggle for any sort of first-team action whatsoever.
