Leeds United look likely to have summer competition to sign Brenden Aaronson from Red Bull Salzburg.

Leeds’ end to the January transfer was radio silent, with very little talk of any movement at the club on deadline day.

One proposed move that dominated talk throughout the month was that of USMNT midfielder Brenden Aaronson.

Reports of two failed bids from Leeds showed their eagerness to sign Aaronson from Salzburg, with their second coming in at £20million.

Red Bull Salzburg ended up standing firm on their stance not to sell the 21-year-old, with their Champions League involvement too big a motivation to keep their squad intact.

However, Leeds haven’t completely given up on the player, now plotting ahead for a summer agreement with the Austrian club.

Journalist Manuel Veth claims that they are not alone in their interest though, joined by AC Milan and RB Leipzig:

No shock here.

Aaronson is a player that will have a lot of clubs across Europe interested, and it looks as though our attempts have just triggered that saga.

I still believe that we have a good chance of signing him if we stay up, but we’re now looking at a bidding war.

If he has a superb end to the season, then we’re either getting him for a hiked up price, or we’re not at all.
