Leeds United have had a bid accepted by Motherwell for 16-year-old defender Sam Campbell, PA Sport reporter Nick Mashiter has claimed.

The Whites are one of three Premier League clubs interested in the teenager, with defending champions Liverpool and Brighton both also linked with Campbell.

Leeds have already recruited heavily for their Under 23s side this summer, with the likes of Arsenal’s Sam Greenwood, Fulham’s Cody Drameh and Wigan’s Joe Gelhardt part of a long list of young players to make the move to Elland Road.

It seems however, as though the Whites are not done yet when it comes to adding to their youth ranks this summer.

According to Mashiter’s latest update, the Championship title winners have already seen a bid accepted by Motherwell for the highly rated Campbell, although they are not alone in the race for the defender.

Both Liverpool and Brighton are also said to have had bids accepted for Campbell, who now looks set to have his pick of the three clubs for his next destination.

Follow-up reports have also revealed that a fourth Premier League team, Crystal Palace, are interested, but have yet to agree a deal with Motherwell.

For their part, the Scottish Premier League team have reportedly offered Campbell a new three-year deal in a bid to convince him to stay at Fir Park, in spite of that interest from English football’s top-flight.

Campbell has yet to make a senior appearance for his current club, but had broken into Motherwell’s Under 18s side by the age of 14, having joined ‘Well back in December 2018.

This could be an impressive piece of business for Leeds if they are able to pull it off.

It is clearly too soon for Campbell to be making the step up to regular Premier League football, but that doesn’t seem to have put Leeds off when it comes to doing their business this summer.

Indeed, the level of interest there is in Campbell from the Premier League, as well as his progression with Motherwell so far, just goes to show the potential he has that the Whites could benefit from in the future, if they are able to bring him to Elland Road.

As a result, it does seem as if this could be something of a coup for Leeds if they can pull it off, and the amount of recruitment they have done with regards to their youth setup this summer, could give them confidence that they will be able to win this particular transfer battle.
