Obviously, there’s not too much to get cheery about at the moment involving Leeds United, especially off the field. Massimo Cellino has basically confirmed that he won’t be buying Elland Road this month, after he had promised to do so and GFH are still making their statements. Anyway, too much is said about the ownership, it’s getting extremely boring.
Many teams have had bad starts in the Championship before and gone on to do well. Crystal Palace under Iain Dowie? Reading under Brian McDermott? Crystal Palace were even lower than us, in the relegation zone even, they got promoted through the play-offs. Reading were in a similar position to us, 16th in fact. They won the league. Now, it would be silly to suggest that Leeds are showing signs of doing similar, but all it takes is a few results. If we beat Blackpool today we go into the international break on a bit of a high and we could really carry it on.
Neil Redfearn brings stability, I think if anyone is going to be given a long go at the job under Cellino it’ll be Redders. They get on really well and the players clearly like playing for him. The thing with the similarities with Palace and Reading, neither McDermott or Dowie had done anything in first team football as a manager before. It’s a bit of an unknown quantity that Leeds have, teams do not know what to expect, as it was shown at Bournemouth. Bournemouth under Eddie Howe are now top of the league, we beat them away. We do have a good team I still believe, with a new CB and a winger or too, it would be great. Redders has said in his interviews recently that he would like to sign a player or two and that Cellino agrees. This could be just the boost that we need, a couple of players with pace would transform this team into play-off contenders. I am sure of that.
I have decided to be positive, maybe because of the abuse I received from a select few about being negative, maybe because I wanted to. All I know for sure is that Redders deserves our support, the players do too, some more than others. Our attendances should really be better than they are, given how big the city of Leeds is. Though I do understand why people may be less willing to turn up these days. I think we’ll win convincingly today and then we’ll all be annoyed at the timing of the international break. That’s Leeds really isn’t it.
I think we’ll win 3-0 tomorrow, Adryan with the first and Sharp with the others, if fit.
