Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling are set to return for Leeds United this weekend against Brentford.

Leeds have been without Bamford (ankle) and Ayling (knee) since September’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United.

Marcelo Bielsa has now revealed – via Phil Hay on Twitter – that both could be in contention for Leeds this weekend against Brentford.

Here, Kris (FA5) and Alfie (N12) discuss the importance of that player boost:

This is massive for us at both ends of the pitch.

We’ve looked really blunt in attack ever since Bamford and Ayling have been out, with not only Bamford’s goal-scoring a key asset, but how he initiates everything good we do without the ball.

I think the likes of Dan James and Rodrigo will benefit a lot from having that focal point in the final third, knowing there’s a presence in the box to aim for rather than looking a bit aimless in recent weeks.

As for Ayling, his defensive contribution is obviously a big miss, but what he offers going forwards has been sorely missed too, supporting Raphinha down the right flank with good ball-carrying.

I’m not totally convinced both are going to be thrown into the starting lineup on Sunday, but the fact we can choose from them is big for us heading into a daunting fixture list in December.

Their presence in the matchday squad will give Elland Road a real lift against Brentford.

Bamford has been sorely missed in attack and Leeds have struggled without him. Ayling’s absence has been less felt, but he’s a big personality in the squad and will help the dressing room.

Personally, I don’t see either starting against Brentford after a win against Crystal Palace on Tuesday night.

However, as I’ve mentioned, getting them into the matchday squad will be huge.

Imagine the buzz on the terrace if Leeds need a goal and they’re turning to Bamford? Or, alternatively, if they Leeds hanging on and introduce Ayling to get them over the line?

It’s massive news, there’s no doubt about that.
