Patrick Bamford and Robin Koch are at the final stages of their recovery but will both miss Leeds United’s trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday through injury.
Leeds have been without Bamford for two months now, whilst Koch last featured for the Whites on the opening day of the 2021/22 season.
Both are close to making a return for Leeds, although that isn’t going to come this weekend as Marcelo Bielsa’s side head to Brighton.
As per The Athletic, Bielsa has revealed that both Bamford and Koch are now nearing the end of their recoveries.
“The only two players in the final period of their recovery are (Robin) Koch and (Patrick) Bamford, who has an ankle injury. It has been a serious injury.”
As Bielsa explains, it has been an ankle injury that has ruled Bamford out since the draw at Newcastle United in September.
In terms of Koch, he’s been out with a pelvic injury since Leeds lost 5-1 at Manchester United on the opening day of the season.
When Leeds dropped the training video of Bamford and Koch earlier in the week, it was a bit of a pipedream to think either would be fit for this weekend.
Their extended absence is, of course, a touch irritating.
However, Bamford and Koch are now the only two long-term absentees Bielsa is waiting on. The bigger picture is that this is great news.
Leeds have a gruelling December schedule and getting some key bodies back is going to be big.
