Leeds United forward Sonny Perkins has been named the PL2 Player of the Month for August after a brilliant start to the season in the under-21s.

Further proof has come that Leeds know what they are doing when scouring the country to invest in youth talent.

Relegation from the PL2 Division 1 came thanks to a large chunk of the youth side being forced to play senior football, but the side looks to be bouncing back very well right now.

Sonny Perkins joined the club in the summer following the expiry of his contract at West Ham, and has hit the ground running in superb fashion, with five goals in just four appearances this season.

The forward has received two bits of great news today thanks to his form in a Leeds shirt, first with confirmation that he has scooped up the PL2 Player of the Month award:

Not only that, but he has been named in the England under-19s squad for the upcoming U19 European Championships alongside Darko Gyabi:

Perkins could cap off a brilliant day with yet another audition for Jesse Marsch, as he is set to feature in the under-21’s clash against Southampton.

Should Perkins play for the first-team this season?

Yes

Yes

No

No

I can’t see Perkins staying out of the first-team picture for that long, knowing how well he’s done here and how highly he was rated at West Ham.

His goalscoring form speaks for itself but he’s showing a lot more to his game than just being able to find the net.

You’d think Perkins will be champing at the bit to impress tonight in front of what is likely to be another big PL2 crowd at Elland Road.
