Kalvin Phillips has confirmed he’s ‘back on the grass’ as he looks to get himself into contention for Leeds United after two months on the sidelines.

Leeds have been without Phillips since December’s draw with Brentford due to a hamstring injury.

His expected return date isn’t until March, potentially leaving Leeds without him for four fixtures across February.

However, taking to his social media platforms in the last 24 hours, Phillips has confirmed that he’s back out on the training pitches, taking huge strides towards a return:

Alongside the 26-year-old, Liam Cooper is also at the same stage of his recovery, having picked up a hamstring injury of his own in the same fixture with Brentford.

A host of pictures from Thorp Arch have offered an insight into the recoveries of Marcelo Bielsa’s key men, although there’s been no sign of Patrick Bamford.

Bamford has started only five games this season, with a host of injuries impacting his season.

Phillips’ return will be a welcome boost for Leeds in the coming weeks.

Of course, simply being back out on the training pitches doesn’t mean he’s on the cusp of returning, but it’s a significant step towards that.

Marcelo Bielsa has built his side around the England international over the last four years and there will be a significant shift in the system working smoother when he returns to the fold.

Robin Koch and Adam Forshaw have done a good job in covering Phillips, but his return allows them to play different roles that they are better suited to.

That all contributes to Leeds improving.
