Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign Blackburn Rovers’ Ben Brereton Diaz in January, and his club are fighting to keep him at Ewood Park.

Patrick Bamford could be back in action this week for Leeds after nine games sidelined with injury, and his absence might have put the club in a position to strengthen that area.

The Whites cannot afford to have Bamford out for another extended period, given that there is no sufficient goal-scoring cover for him, so a January swoop for a striker could be on the cards.

Ben Brereton Diaz’s name is cropping up almost weekly thanks to his outstanding rise to prominence both with Blackburn Rovers and the Chile national team.

Football League World have reported that Leeds have re-ignited their interest in the Championship striker as he currently stands on an impressive 16 goals in 20 appearances.

He’s one of the most talked-about names from the second tier right now and it looks more and more likely that he will make his move to the Premier League in the not-too-distant future.

Insight has been shared into his current situation at Ewood Park, with the club fighting hard to keep him there during January.

Transfer Expert Dean Jones has been speaking on the latest episode of Touchline Talk (via Oddschanger on Twitter) about Brereton Diaz’s future:

“They’re facing a massive fight to keep hold of him.

”They’ve been in talks for a couple of months, as I understand it, to try to get him onto new terms, on a new, improved and extended contract.

“At the moment I’m told there’s no real indication that he is set to sign so that, so it is slightly worrying for Blackburn and there’s not really much you can do in that situation now, you’ve just got to wait to see if this interest actually comes through to anything.

“Leeds, what I’m told, are a club that really are taking this seriously and looking to see how this situation plays out and in January perhaps we could see Leeds going for him.”

Brereton Diaz would be a really smart move for us in my opinion, given how he’s not just a striker.

He’s shown he can play out wide too and the fact he has these skills to his arsenal makes him much more suited to Bielsa’s setup.

His goals are a massive bonus too and I’m not surprised Blackburn are working hard to try tie him down.

I do wonder how much he would command in the transfer market though if we did try to sign him, because he’s out of contract in the summer and could go for nothing.
