Leeds United have confirmed their replacement for Mark Jackson, announcing the appointment of Chris Armas as the new assistant head coach.

Leeds have seen a great deal of changes to their playing and coaching staff in the last 12 months, and Jesse Marsch is still looking to mould things to his liking right now.

The departure of Mark Jackson to MK Dons as their new manager left a big gap to fill in the coaching staff.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Marsch has again moved to bring in someone else that he has previously worked with in his career to plug that spot in the dressing room.

The club confirmed that former Manchester United coach Chris Armas has joined the club as Marsch’s assistant head coach:

Marsch and Armas first worked together when the latter was Marsch’s assistant at New York Red Bulls, before taking over from him as he departed for a job in Europe.

The confirmation from Leeds comes with a humorous description of his former employment at Old Trafford:

“Armas spent two years in charge of New York Red Bulls, whilst also had managerial experience with fellow MLS outfit Toronto FC.

“Last season, Armas spent time as an assistant at another Premier League club, working under Ralf Rangnick.”

What this strongly suggests to me is that the board are backing Marsch to get things right here – whether or not that is the right decision.

Bringing in a trusted former colleague of his is a strong show of faith from the club, and hopefully it can help him get it right.

As much as plenty of fans wouldn’t mind a change in the dugout right now, most would just want Marsch to do well.
