Leeds United winger Ian Poveda is spending the season with Championship side Blackpool, looking to get back to top form after a lengthy injury layoff.

The Whites saw plenty of young players leave the club on loan this summer, with game time a real priority for players in need of senior exposure.

Ian Poveda has rarely been a regular in his career, having switched from Manchester City to Elland Road in 2020, and finding starts very difficult to come by.

After what looked to be a promising loan spell at Blackburn Rovers was halted by injury, he’s spending this season again in Lancashire, this time with Blackpool.

Here, we look at how the winger is getting on since his temporary move to Bloomfield Road…

How is he playing?

It’s early days in his Blackpool stint, but signs are good so far from Poveda under Michael Appleton, having made four appearances already this season.

His first start for the club showed what he can do, as he played as an inside forward in a trip to Huddersfield Town, helping set up the game’s only goal as he raced clear, hit the post with a shot which rebounded to Theo Corbeanu.

The last two games have been less enjoyable for Poveda with back-to-back defeats seeing him hooked after 57 minutes against Rotherham, before managing just 18 minutes in a loss to Millwall, where he faced Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell.

Is he a guaranteed starter yet?

Being in and out of the side would suggest that Poveda is yet to nail his place like fellow loanee Corbeanu, but regular appearances will be encouraging for him.

His time at Blackburn showed that a good run of games could really bring the best out of him.

How will Leeds view the move?

Leeds might not view Poveda as someone to come back to Thorp Arch after this loan and fight for a place, but they will still be happy that he is developing well.

Poveda has a platform at Blackpool to impress and potentially earn himself a long-term Championship move, something that will benefit him more than a series of loans from Leeds.
