Leeds United striker Rodrigo is looking for a surprisingly quick recovery from his shin injury this week, after initially being ruled out for two months.

Leeds’ goalscoring issues in the Premier League over the last month could be solved by the return of Rodrigo to the front line.

The Spaniard is Leeds’ top scorer this season with 10 league goals, but has not yet had a season at Leeds where he has been completely free of injury issues.

This campaign already saw him suffer a dislocated shoulder back in August, and now he’s been forced to sit out after surgery on another problem.

Here, we look at all the latest information on Rodrigo’s injury recovery…

What injury does he have?

A win against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup saw Rodrigo bizarrely brought on with less than half and hour to play while the Whites were three goals to the good at the Wham Stadium.

Rodrigo came on with 21 minutes to play, but left the game complaining of heel pain (per Phil Hay), which was later revealed to be a fractured shinbone.

Surgery for the striker saw the club confirm he would be out for two months, putting him on a timescale of the Arsenal clash at the start of April for a return.

Has Rodrigo spoke about the injury?

Rodrigo did give fans a positive update recently on his chances of being back ahead of that initial schedule:

“Things are progressing better than I expected, to be honest. We are trying to shorten the recovery period.

“I’m happy for that. Injuries are always a frustrating moment for a football player, but I understand that’s part of football as well. I’m trying to do everything I can to be back as soon as possible.

“I expect to be back before the international break. When I got the injury, they said probably I will be back just after the international break, but things are progressing better than we always expected.

“I hope I can be available for the games before the international break, but let’s see. We can’t confirm because it depends on my progression from now to the next two or three weeks, but if I keep this progression, I think I will be available before [the break].”

What’s the latest?

The Athletic’s Phil Hay has since shared an update on the striker’s whereabouts with regards to his return, where he wrote:

“The timeline for Rodrigo’s recovery from an ill-timed tackle at Accrington had him reappearing at some stage this month. He was crossing his fingers that he might be fit to feature against Brighton this weekend or, failing that, be back in the squad away at Wolverhampton Wanderers seven days later — in the mix before the international break.”
