‘Hope he doesn’t walk’ – These Leeds United fans react to Marcelo Bielsa’s ‘understatement’ after Man City defeat

|

Marcelo Bielsa has claimed that his Leeds United side have never played as badly as they did in last night’s 7-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Leeds were humiliated by City at the Etihad Stadium, conceding three first-half goals and then a further four in the second period.

It was Bielsa’s worst career defeat and one of Leeds’ heaviest in their 102 year history.

As per Phil Hay, Bielsa described the performance as one of his side’s worst since he took charge at Elland Road back in 2018.

It was a really telling statement from the South American, who was understandably downbeat.

There was plenty of reaction to that comment over on Twitter, where many fans were left with fingers crossed that Bielsa wasn’t about to walk away from Elland Road:

Last night was tough.

Firstly, you’ve got to agree with Bielsa that Leeds haven’t played as badly as that in a long, long time.

They’ve been on the end of heavy defeat at Old Trafford twice in the Premier League under him, but that was more about Leeds getting stung on the counter and at least they hit back.

Last night was utter domination from the first whistle, as City crushed Leeds.

Bielsa looked beaten at full-time and comments like this do spark the type of reaction they have. However, there needs to be a reaction from the players in the comings weeks and Bielsa is the man to get that.

Results like last night won’t define this season or his tenure at the club.
