Rodrigo edged closer to a Leeds United return after he netted a brace for the under-23s 2-0 win away to Wolves.

Injuries have forced Marcelo Bielsa into a host of changes to his starting lineup this season and we’re still a handful of players off of his ‘strongest lineup’.

Rodrigo would be one of the first names on that team sheet after arriving from Valencia for a club record fee.

His presence in the final third has been sorely missed since the win over Leicester City, and will be a huge boost when he returns.

He took a huge step towards making his comeback when he featured for the under-23s in their away game against Wolves.

In doing so, he netted twice in the first half with a well-taken finish from the edge of the box as well as a penalty:

It was a sign he’s looking close to regaining his sharpness needed to start for Bielsa in the Premier League.

The fans were delighted to see him perform this well and are looking forward to a potential return soon…

It’s a massive boost to see him looking as sharp as ever and confident too, even if it’s for the under-23s.

It’s touch and go whether he’ll be ready for West M, but playing and doing well here stands him in good stead.

He’s been such a miss in the side lately and while Tyler Roberts has shown flashes, Rodrigo brings consistency.

Having someone behind Bamford with that intelligence and movement will be vital in the run-in.
