Newcastle United’s Steve Bruce has come out with huge admiration for the job done by Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United.

Leeds are in their fourth season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa, and his management has brought the club so far in such a short space of time.

Elevating the side to being promotion favourites in the Championship after just one summer was only the start, now he oversees his second Premier League season after a ninth-place finish in 2020/21.

This campaign hasn’t got off to the most marvellous start, but two points from clashes against Man United, Everton, Burnley, and Liverpool is about par for the course with this squad.

The realisation of just how well he’s done is hitting home with plenty of neutrals, but tonight’s opposite number Steve Bruce has long-term admiration for the Argentine.

Ahead of Leeds’ away clash at Newcastle United, Bruce had this to say on Bielsa’s impact at Leeds (via The Chrionicle):

He’s very well regarded, the manager.

His team, now, are probably the team that you want to watch. They’re different to everybody else. I’ve got nothing but respect for the guy who’s transformed Leeds.

When I took Sheffield Wednesday there a few years ago now, I witnessed first-hand, if you like, the change at Leeds.

I saw a group of players who had been in and around that league for a long time, no disrespect to them, and the impact of the manager on them. I haven’t seen an impact like that.

Of course, I’ve seen big managers walk in, like Tuchel, Klopp and Pep at Man City, but I’ve never seen anything at that level, a difference quite like it.

His praise, albeit positive, was not received well by some fans who aren’t convinced…

It’s good to see he’s coming out with such praise, but if I was a Newcastle supporter, it wouldn’t get me up for the game.

Seeing a lack of ambition from top to bottom, while another side flies under prosperous leadership must be a kick in the teeth.

This isn’t to say Newcastle are completely doomed under Bruce, but you can tell by their fans’ reactions that it’s not looking good.

We ought to be taking full advantage of this and getting our first win on the board.
