Junior Firpo endured a tough return to the Leeds United starting line-up last night, managing just 45 minutes in the 0-0 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Leeds swooped to sign Firpo from Barcelona in the summer, splashing £12.8m on the 25-year-old.

A combination of injuries and Covid have limited Firpo to only eight appearances in the Premier League so far this season, with Leeds yet to see the best of Ezgjan Alioski’s replacement.

Last night, Tariq Lamptey ran Firpo into the ground during the first-half as Leeds battened down the hatches to draw 0-0 with Brighton.

Marcelo Bielsa hooked Firpo at half-time, opting to play Stuart Dallas at left-back over his multi-million pound signing from Barcelona.

Stemming from Paddy Power claiming Firpo looked like someone who had won a competition to play for Leeds, the reaction to his performance was brutal:

Firpo really struggled last night and soon as he’d been booked for fouling Lamptey, he was out of the game.

Leeds were poor last night and Firpo wasn’t alone in performing way below the standard of a near-£13m signing.

You can sympathise with him slightly given the fact his adaptation to life in England has been so tough, he’s had injuries and Covid, which can’t have helped.

He actually played very well prior to his latest setback when Leeds beat Watford back in early October.

However, the old saying is that you are only as good as your last performance.

For Firpo, it’s not that great.
