It can be a ‘scary’ experience to play against Leeds United at Elland Road.

That’s according to Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden, who does however, admit that he enjoys the sensation of playing in such an atmosphere.

While Leeds’ return to the Premier League initially came behind closed doors, the backing of their home support has been much vaunted since the full return of fans last season.

That is something that Foden experienced when City made the trip to Yorkshire to face the Whites, back in April.

The England international played 80 minutes as his side claimed a 4-0 win over Leeds, a result that failed to quieten the home support.

Now it seems as though that backing was something that Foden both relished playing against, and found somewhat intimidating.

Speaking about his experience playing at Elland Road, the midfielder told Amazon Prime’s YouTube channel: “It can be scary! Definitely. The feel so on top of you, always shouting and throwing paper at me last time!

“I enjoy those occasions, playing against big teams like Leeds, and the atmospheres they create. It’s good for the Premier League to have atmospheres like this.”

Leeds fans will surely love to hear these sorts of comments from Foden.

The atmosphere at Elland Road is one the club are clearly proud of, so it will be satisfying to see a player who plays for the current Premier League champions paying it such a compliment.

Indeed, it is hard to argue with Foden’s suggestion that this is good for the Premier League, since these sort of atmospheres add to the spectacle of what is supposed to be the biggest league in the world.

That helps the Premier League to continue to be just that, and Leeds will no doubt be helping to benefit from the noise inside Elland Road going forward, to build on an excellent start to the season.
