Arsenal’s new signing Thomas Partey is to miss out the trip to Elland Road on Sunday with a thigh strain.
Leeds are looking to get back on track this Sunday after back-to-back heavy defeats in the league before the international break, and gave a stern test in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Arteta’s side have endured a very indifferent start to the season, winning four as well as losing four, with their last result a damning 3-0 home defeat to a rampant Aston Villa side.
Both sides come into the clash with lingering injury concerns to contend with, as Leeds hope to welcome back a handful of players to the squad.
Leeds are hopeful of seeing the return of Kalvin Phillips and Rodrigo to the starting 11 for Sunday’s clash but also that Diego Llorente is nearing his long-awaited debut.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are struggling with the fitness of their own squad this week and have been dealt another setback.
£45million signing Thomas Partey has been ruled out of the match with a thigh strain.
The holding midfielder sustained the injury during the Gunners’ 3-0 defeat to Villa a fortnight ago, but hasn’t recovered over the international break and will miss the game.
Alongside Partey’s absence, Arteta will also be without Sead Kolasinac and Mohamed Elneny who both received positive tests whilst on international duty and will have to self-isolate.
We’ve seen from our last two games that losing the midfield battle effectively loses us the game, so it’s a boost that Arsenal’s best midfielder is absent.
Partey’s presence in that pivot is something that the Gunners have craved ever since Gilberto Silva left and having him and Elneny missing is a huge blow to their setup.
We showed at the Emirates in January that we can get at Arsenal and cause them serious problems, and you’d hope with Bamford discovering his clinical edge, we’ll take the chances that fall our way this time.
This isn’t to say Arsenal are completely ruined without Partey, but are considerably weaker in midfield without him.
