When the rumours were first circulating that Man City’s next big thing Phil Foden was linked to Leeds it seemed bizarre and frankly impossible. However, it seems there could be some truth to the news. The 18-year-old midfielder is highly rated by Man City and Pep Guardiola and the news in Manchester is that Pep trusts Bielsa to improve Foden as a player whilst making sure he gets the game-time required.
Foden made 10 appearances for Man City’s first-team last season, which is nothing to be sniffed at. Before Bielsa’s arrival at Leeds, it was assumed that Foden would be increasing his minutes with Man City or joining a lower Premier League team on loan. However now that we can compete with the big boys again, Foden could well be on his way to Leeds.
Angus Gunn could also be making the move over the Pennines, although contrary to popular belief, that move may well be a permanent transfer. With Felix leaving for Germany after his terrible time last season, the space has been opened for a new keeper. Bailey Peacock-Farrell performed reasonably well in the late stages of last season but Angus Gunn would be a step up in quality.
These are players that Leeds would have had little chance signing before the arrival of Bielsa, it’s amazing how much things have changed in a short space of time. Fair play to Andrea Radrizzani for stepping up.
