Leeds United are set to miss out on Liverpool veteran James Milner this summer as he looks to join Brighton on a free transfer.

The Whites have more important issues to concern themselves with than bargain transfers falling through, with defeat to West Ham leaving them on the brink of relegation.

One game remains for Leeds while Sam Allardyce would need to turn around a two-point deficit on the final day against Tottenham, while Everton host Bournemouth.

Did Leeds have a transfer lined up?

Relegation or survival will completely change the landscape of what Leeds are capable of in the transfer market, and their safety would have brought a potential hijack over Brighton for Liverpool’s James Milner – per the Daily Mail.

The Leeds-born journeyman is out of contract and leaving Anfield at the end of the season, after bidding farewell to the club’s fans at the weekend after their game against Aston Villa.

Will Leeds be able to sign him?

With defeat to West Ham leaving Leeds with more than a mountain to climb on the final day, relegation looms large, and therefore their chances of an emotional reunion with Milner are out of the window.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who confirmed that the Seagulls are set to sign Milner, having confirmed that they will be playing in Europe as they brushed aside Southampton on Sunday:

Would you be happy for Radrizzani to sell?

First signs of Leeds’ pull dwindling away as relegation looks all but confirmed right now for us.

The players don’t look capable of getting another point on the board, and Spurs is just the day it’s going to see our fate sealed.

Milner would have been a really shrewd signing for us to pull off, but fair play to Brighton going against the grain of their previous investment to add some experience to the group.

I do look forward to seeing how he fares at the AMEX, because that is an incredibly exciting project.
